National Prize for Science and Technology

From the Vrienden Universe, a fictional wiki

The National Prize for Science and Technology was an honour of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen awarded with a diploma and monetary grant. Its official names were Premio Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología in Spanish and Nationalpreis für Wissenschaft und Technik in German.[1] Eef Paap established it under the honours reform of 6 November 1987.[2][3]

Eligibility

[edit | edit source]

The prize recognized a particular discovery or invention, or a connected body of completed scientific or technological research. Tanoan and foreign contributors were eligible when their work was performed for a Tanoan institution or programme. An individual could receive the prize alone. A team award named each contributor and specified their contribution and share of the grant.[4]

Experimental findings in the natural sciences required verification, including work in medicine and agriculture. Engineering developments required representative testing. Specialists assessed mathematical and theoretical work without requiring industrial use.[4]

Selection

[edit | edit source]

Universities and research institutes submitted nominations through the Ministry of Science and Technology. Technical service chiefs could submit classified work.[3] One scientific council assessed nominations and appointed specialist assessors when needed. Security-cleared specialists examined the full evidence for classified research under the same standards. Restricted technical details were omitted from the public citation.[4]

The Führer personally approved the annual list after scientific assessment and verification by the chancellery.[3] The prize could be withheld if no nomination met the standard.[4]

Earlier work and repeat awards

[edit | edit source]

The founding round could recognize specified achievements completed before 1987. Older work remained eligible in later rounds if its significance had only recently been established. A repeat prize required a different, later achievement.[4] A separate productive contribution on the same programme could qualify for the Eef Paap Labour Merit Cross.[5]

Posthumous awards required verification of the deceased contributor's work. An unfinished idea did not establish credit for discoveries subsequently made by colleagues.[4]
