Vrienden Universe:Privacy policy

From the Vrienden Universe, a fictional wiki

This Privacy Policy describes how information is handled on the Vrienden Universe Wiki.

The Vrienden Universe Wiki is an independent MediaWiki website used as a reference and documentation project.

By accessing or using the wiki, users accept the handling of information described on this page.

This policy applies to the Vrienden Universe Wiki, including pages, files, images, templates, categories, redirects, edit histories, logs, discussions, user accounts, and other wiki functions.

This policy does not apply to external websites linked from the wiki.

This policy also covers advertising displayed on the wiki and the use of advertising services connected to the wiki.

General principles

[edit source]

The wiki is operated with limited collection of personal information.

Information may be handled to operate the wiki, provide accounts, support editing, keep page histories, prevent abuse, protect the website, display advertisements, and maintain technical stability.

Users are not required to provide their real name to create or use an account.

Wiki editing is public by design. Edits, usernames, edit summaries, page histories, logs, discussions, and uploaded files may be visible to other users and visitors.

Automatically handled information

[edit source]

When a user visits the wiki, technical information may be handled automatically by the server, hosting provider, MediaWiki software, security systems, and advertising services.

This may include IP address, date and time of access, requested pages, requested files, browser type, device type, operating system, language settings, referring page, and connection information.

Server logs may be created automatically. These logs may be used for technical operation, error diagnosis, security, spam prevention, abuse prevention, and investigation of disruption.

Advertising services may receive or process technical information when ads are loaded, displayed, measured, clicked, blocked, limited, or checked for invalid traffic.

User accounts

[edit source]

Account creation may be available on the wiki.

If a user creates an account, the wiki may store the chosen username, protected password credentials, user preferences, user rights, watchlist settings, account settings, edit history, uploads, and logs connected to the account.

Actions made through a registered account may be connected to that username in public page histories, logs, discussions, and other wiki records.

Users should not use a real name, private name, identifying username, or personal information unless they choose to make that information public.

Editing and contributions

[edit source]

Edits, uploads, page moves, edit summaries, discussion posts, and other contributions may be publicly visible.

The wiki keeps page histories so that changes can be reviewed, compared, reverted, restored, or attributed.

Edits made while logged in are associated with the registered username.

If unregistered editing is enabled, edits made without an account may be associated with technical identifiers used by the wiki configuration.

Some actions may appear in public logs. Some technical information may be visible only to users with administrative or technical access.

Users should not add private, confidential, identifying, sensitive, or unwanted personal information about themselves or others.

Cookies and local storage

[edit source]

The wiki may use cookies and local storage for MediaWiki functionality.

Functional cookies may be used for login sessions, account preferences, editing functions, interface settings, navigation, security, and basic site operation.

Advertising services may use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, or similar technologies to show ads, limit repeated ads, measure ad performance, detect invalid traffic, and support advertising functions.

The wiki may show a cookie or consent notice for advertising cookies, local storage, ad personalization, ad measurement, or similar technologies.

Users may block or delete cookies through their browser settings.

Blocking cookies may affect login, editing, preferences, consent choices, advertising functions, or other site features.

Advertising

[edit source]

The wiki may display advertisements.

Advertisements may be provided by third-party advertising services.

Advertising services may process cookie data, device data, page-view data, ad-view data, click data, browser data, approximate location data, consent data, and other advertising-related information.

Ads may be personalized where advertising settings, consent choices, location, browser settings, and advertising service settings allow it.

Ads may also be non-personalized. Non-personalized ads may still use cookies or similar technologies for delivery, frequency limits, fraud prevention, measurement, and reporting.

Advertising services may use information to measure ad delivery, ad performance, ad frequency, invalid traffic, fraud prevention, and reporting.

The wiki operators do not personally select every advertisement shown by third-party advertising systems.

An advertisement appearing on the wiki does not mean that the wiki endorses the advertiser, product, service, website, message, claim, or offer.

Google advertising services

[edit source]

The wiki may use Google advertising services, including Google AdSense or related Google advertising products.

Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, measure ads, limit repeated ads, detect invalid traffic, and support advertising functions.

Google and its partners may use information from visits to this wiki and other websites to help serve ads.

Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies or similar technologies to show ads on the wiki.

Users may be able to manage Google ad personalization through Google’s advertising settings, browser settings, consent choices, or other Google-provided controls.

Google provides its own privacy and advertising information. Users should review Google’s own privacy and advertising settings for details about how Google handles advertising data.

[edit source]

The wiki may show a consent notice for cookies, local storage, advertising, ad personalization, and ad measurement.

Users may be able to accept, reject, or manage advertising and cookie choices.

Users may be able to change choices through the consent notice, browser settings, Google settings, or advertising partner settings.

Rejecting advertising cookies may affect ad personalization, ad measurement, frequency limits, or other advertising functions.

Use of information

[edit source]

Information may be used to load pages, deliver files, provide accounts, process edits, maintain page histories, handle uploads, and support MediaWiki functions.

Information may be used to prevent vandalism, spam, account abuse, automated abuse, invalid traffic, technical attacks, and disruption of the wiki.

Information may be used to display advertisements, support advertising systems, measure ad performance, prevent invalid ad activity, and manage advertising choices.

Information may be used to diagnose technical errors, server problems, software issues, display problems, advertising errors, and security incidents.

Sharing of information

[edit source]

Public contributions, usernames, edit summaries, page histories, logs, discussions, and uploaded files may be visible to other users and visitors.

Hosting providers, server providers, domain providers, security providers, backup providers, software providers, and other technical services may process information needed to operate and protect the wiki.

Advertising partners may receive or process information needed to display ads, measure ads, prevent invalid traffic, manage consent, and support advertising systems.

Information may be accessed or reviewed to protect the wiki, investigate abuse, respond to security issues, handle spam, or prevent disruption.

The wiki operator does not directly sell registered account records, edit histories, or private account settings as a separate data product.

External services

[edit source]

The wiki may rely on infrastructure services for hosting, domain resolution, server operation, security, backups, content delivery, and maintenance.

The wiki may rely on advertising services to display ads and support ad-related functions.

External services have their own privacy practices. The wiki does not control every action of external providers.

[edit source]

The wiki may link to external websites, files, archives, videos, social media pages, databases, advertisements, or other third-party material.

External websites may collect, process, store, or share information under their own policies.

When users leave the wiki through an external link or advertisement, the external website may handle information separately from the wiki.

Data retention

[edit source]

Technical logs may be kept for operation, diagnosis, advertising, abuse prevention, and security.

Technical logs may be deleted, rotated, overwritten, or retained depending on server settings, hosting settings, security needs, and operational needs.

User-generated content, edit histories, uploads, logs, page histories, and discussions may be retained as part of the wiki record.

Backups may contain older versions of pages, files, logs, or account-related data.

Copies, screenshots, mirrors, search engine caches, archived pages, downloaded files, reposts, or saved versions outside the wiki may continue to exist after material is changed or removed from the wiki.

Security

[edit source]

Technical measures may be used to protect the wiki against unauthorized access, data loss, spam, vandalism, abuse, and disruption.

No website, server, database, account system, advertising system, or internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users are responsible for their own passwords, devices, browsers, accounts, internet connections, downloads, and security settings.

Children

[edit source]

The wiki is not specifically directed at children.

The wiki does not intentionally request personal information from children.

Users who are minors should use the wiki only with appropriate permission and supervision.

User controls and requests

[edit source]

Registered users may be able to change some account preferences through MediaWiki settings.

Users may be able to delete or block cookies through their browser settings.

Users may be able to manage advertising preferences through consent tools, browser settings, Google settings, or advertising partner settings.

Users may request review of personal information they believe should be removed from the wiki.

Some information may remain in page histories, logs, backups, archives, cached copies, mirrors, screenshots, search results, or third-party copies.

Policy changes

[edit source]

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes in wiki operation, advertising, cookies, hosting, security, technical services, or administrative practices.

Updates take effect when published on this page.

Continued use of the wiki after changes means that the user accepts the updated policy.

Contact

[edit source]

Privacy-related requests may be sent through the contact method provided on the wiki.

A request should identify the page, file, account, edit, log entry, or other material involved, and should explain what review is being requested.

Interpretation

[edit source]

This Privacy Policy explains how information may be handled in connection with the wiki.

Users who do not accept this Privacy Policy should stop using the wiki.
