Marcelo Orbes (born 3 February 1992) is an Argentine former military officer who served in the Wehrmacht of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen from 2010 to 2024. He reached the rank of Oberleutnant and served at the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen headquarters in Georgetown, Tanoa. Following the surrender of the Tanoan military on 30 November 2024, he was detained and questioned about military redeployment orders. He was released without charges on 23 January 2025.
Early life
[edit | edit source]Orbes was born on 3 February 1992 in Córdoba, Argentina. He completed secondary school in 2009 but couldn't find regular employment. He decided to join the Wehrmacht to earn a salary and leave his parents' home.
Military career
[edit | edit source]Orbes enlisted on 12 April 2010 and was stationed at a Wehrmacht garrison in Córdoba. On 8 August 2016, he began officer training in Buenos Aires. He completed the course on 15 December 2017 and was commissioned as a Leutnant three days later.
On 8 January 2018, Orbes was posted to Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, where he assigned newly arrived replacement soldiers to military units. He transferred to Río Gallegos, Santa Cruz, on 3 February 2020.
Orbes was transferred to Georgetown on 19 April 2021 and joined the Amt für Territoriale Kommandostrukturen at the Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.[1] He handled requests from Wehrmacht command offices in Argentina to transfer units between garrisons. He was promoted to Oberleutnant on 11 November 2022.
On 30 November 2024, Orbes surrendered in Georgetown when the remaining Tanoan military command capitulated.[2]
Detention and later life
[edit | edit source]Orbes was detained following the surrender. Investigators examined his correspondence with Wehrmacht garrisons in Argentina and interviewed other headquarters personnel about redeployment orders issued before the collapse. He was released without criminal charges on 23 January 2025.
Orbes returned to his house in Villa del Dique, Córdoba. He remained unemployed for most of 2025 and lived on his savings.
Orbes has worked as an administrative clerk at a building-materials supplier in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita since 24 November 2025.
