La Roche
La Roche is a city in the Central Division of Narevaku.[1] It was the country's capital before the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen conquered it in 1944.[2]
History
[edit | edit source]La Roche became the colonial capital after France colonized Narevaku in the nineteenth century. After France granted limited self-government, a Narevakan administration operated from the city. Japan occupied the country during the Second World War but retained that administration under military authority.[2]
Jan Paap's forces captured La Roche in 1944 and removed the Narevakan administration. Georgetown was founded in 1945 and replaced La Roche as the regime's capital.[2]
The La Roche Victory Medal commemorated the capture operation.[3]
