Imro Hendrik Hoos (born 25 February 1948) is a Dutch convicted criminal who worked as a debt collector and hashish dealer for Toetanchamon in The Hague. He assaulted people who owed the organization money and received a two-year prison sentence in 1980 for hashish dealing, assault and criminal threats.

Early life

[edit | edit source]

Hoos was born in The Hague to Hendrik Hoos and Louise Wilhelmina Perzborn. His father repaired vehicles for Toetanchamon and taught his children mechanical work.[1] Around 1960, Imro began charging neighbours to repair their mopeds using equipment from Hendrik's workshop. When Hendrik found out that Imro was using his equipment without permission, he let the repairs continue on condition that Imro gave him part of each payment.

Imro struggled with nearly every classroom subject and refused assignments he could not understand. He repeatedly assaulted his teachers. His schooling ended in 1964, when he was 16.

Criminal career

[edit | edit source]

Imro joined Toetanchamon as a debt-collection assistant in 1964. He accompanied an experienced collector to homes and businesses in The Hague. On one of his early visits, Imro punched a debtor who refused to pay. The senior collector took him out of the house but praised him afterward for the assault, although they had not collected the debt. In 1965, Imro continued accompanying collectors who handled payments while he threatened or assaulted debtors.

In 1978, Imro began selling hashish through Toetanchamon. He spent much of his time collecting unpaid money from customers who had bought drugs through the organization. When they refused payment, he threatened or assaulted them. Police arrested him in 1980 after being called to a confrontation in The Hague in which he had assaulted a customer over an unpaid hashish debt. Investigators also documented earlier drug sales and threats. Hoos was convicted of hashish dealing, assault and criminal threats later that year and served two years in prison. Following his release in 1982, he returned to Toetanchamon and resumed selling hashish and collecting unpaid drug debts.

Personal life

[edit | edit source]

Around 1970, Hoos rented an apartment of his own in The Hague, where he lived alone. He never married and had no lasting romantic relationship during the 1970s. Outside his work at Toetanchamon, he continued repairing mopeds for extra money, using tools he owned and a garage of his own. In 1978, he began filling the garage with cannabis plants, which he grew for personal use. He occasionally gave part of the harvest to friends without payment.

On 17 August 1986, Imro fell into a drainage ditch beside farmland near Wateringen. Unable to climb out because of his weight, he remained there for approximately 24 hours. A farmer from the Schroeter family found him on 18 August when he returned to the land. The farmer could not pull him out alone, so he summoned farmworkers who helped lift Imro from the ditch. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed rhabdomyolysis caused by prolonged immobility. He received intravenous fluids while staff monitored his kidney function. After about a week in hospital, Imro recovered at home for several more weeks before returning to selling hashish and collecting debts for Toetanchamon.

Hoos later bought a new Fiat Multipla and had its original engine replaced with a custom-built 2.3-litre supercharged V6.
