Central Narevaku Campaign Medal
The Central Narevaku Campaign Medal was a campaign decoration of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen for service from the attack on La Roche through consolidation of Narevaku's Central Division.[1] Its official names were Zentralnarevaku-Feldzugsmedaille in German and Medalla de Campaña de Narevaku Central in Spanish.[2]
Jan Paap established it as one of six separate conquest campaign medals under the Führer Decree on the Decorations of the Conquest, issued on 31 December 1944. The decree recognized service during the completed conquest.[3][1]
Eligibility
[edit | edit source]Assigned participation within the campaign area and qualifying period required certification through the chain of command. Combat and command duties qualified alongside essential operational support, including medical work, transport, communications and logistics. Personnel killed or wounded during the campaign qualified automatically, as did those decorated for bravery during it.[1]
The La Roche operation opened the Central campaign. Its personnel could qualify for both this medal and the La Roche Victory Medal. Field and personnel records established individual qualifying dates within the campaign's operational boundaries.[1]
Insignia
[edit | edit source]The circular medal shared the conquest series' obverse, showing the Tanoan state eagle holding a palm wreath containing a swastika. Its reverse bore ZENTRALNAREVAKU 1944 within a palm wreath above an outline of the Central Division. The ribbon was gold with one dark-green centre stripe.[1]
