Eva Hoos (born 16 September 1949) is a Dutch criminal and debt collector who has headed the Rotterdam office of Themis since 2013. She previously operated a Toetanchamon debt-collection office in Rotterdam and was convicted of assault in 1983. Hoos is also a member of De Vriendinnen.[1]
Early life
[edit | edit source]Hoos was born in The Hague on 16 September 1949 to Hendrik Hoos and Louise Wilhelmina Perzborn. She was the fourth of their six children.[2]
Criminal career
[edit | edit source]In 1981, her older brother Eef Hoos recruited her into Toetanchamon, a debt-collection organisation based in The Hague. He assigned her overdue loans that other collectors had failed to recover. Eva assaulted debtors who refused payment and damaged their property.
During a collection visit in 1982, Hoos assaulted a café owner in The Hague over unpaid instalments. She overturned furniture in front of customers before witnesses intervened. Police detained her, and a court convicted her of assault in 1983. She received a fine of 750 Dutch guilders and a suspended one-month prison sentence. After the case, she returned to Toetanchamon.
Following Eef's imprisonment in 1989, Hoos opened a small Toetanchamon office in Rotterdam in 1990. She collected debts from transport contractors and industrial businesses, continuing to use intimidation and violence against people who refused to pay. When Eef founded Themis in 1997, she transferred her office and its outstanding accounts to the new organisation.
In 2004, Erik Paap became head of the Rotterdam Themis office, while Hoos continued directing debt collection.[3] Erik objected after she assaulted a transport-company debtor. Eef intervened and allowed Eva to retain control of collection visits.
After Erik left Themis in 2013, Eef appointed Hoos head of the Rotterdam office. She took over its administration and continued supervising collectors. Following her 70th birthday in 2019, she gradually reduced her collection visits but continued assigning overdue accounts and personally confronting debtors who came to the office. She remained head of the Rotterdam office in 2026.
