Paramarbo is a Surinamese construction company founded by Henk van Hetten in Paramaribo on 1 October 1990. Its work has included pile foundations and the construction of small commercial buildings.[1] Since 10 April 2026, the company has operated the former Van Hetten family dump site as its construction yard.[1]
History
Van Hetten returned to Paramaribo in March 1990 after six years in Rotterdam and began arranging contracts for a new construction business. While he was setting up Paramarbo, Wijnand van Hetten and Ewald van Hetten lent him machinery from the Van Hetten family dump site. They continued running the dump site separately and did not join the company.[1]
Paramarbo was formally founded on 1 October 1990. Its first major project was a group of private houses in Paramaribo that required pile foundations. The company later began constructing small commercial buildings. It developed a permanent workforce of 12 employees.[1]
The company stopped relying entirely on borrowed machinery in 1996 when it bought a used Sumitomo LS-118RH-5 crawler crane configured for pile driving. It was Paramarbo's first major machine owned outright. A Kobelco CKE800 joined the fleet in 2006, followed by a Kobelco BM700HD-2 in 2012. Van Hetten continues to operate the BM700HD-2 on selected projects.[1]
Construction yard
Before 2026, Paramarbo obtained reusable building materials from the Van Hetten family dump site. On 10 April 2026, Wijnand retired from daily management and transferred the property to Henk. Henk incorporated it into Paramarbo as the company's construction yard. The yard continues to accept household waste and debris from construction work while storing company machinery and recovered building materials.[1]
Rinaldo van Hetten remained at the property after the transfer. He continues to operate the site's Hitachi WS100 wheel loader when needed.[2]
