The Führer of Tanoa was the supreme political and military office of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. The office was established on 9 August 1944, when the Argentine Einsatz reached Tanoa and was reorganized as the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Jan Paap became the first Führer and remained in office until his retirement in January 1980. His son Eef Paap succeeded him and served until his death on 24 November 2024.

No successor was appointed after Eef's death. The office remained vacant during the final six days of the regime and ended when the government of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen ceased to function on 30 November 2024.

Formation
Jan Paap founded the Argentine Einsatz at Rada Tilly, Argentina, on 13 May 1944. He led the organization while it recruited personnel and prepared an expedition to Tanoa. The group departed from the Patagonian coast on 28 July and reached Ravi-Ta on 9 August 1944.

After the landing, the Argentine Einsatz was reorganized as the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen. Paap became Führer on the same day and directed the establishment of the first permanent base on Ravi-Ta. The 13 May date therefore marked the beginning of Paap's leadership of the Argentine Einsatz, while the office of Führer of Tanoa began on 9 August.

Role and authority
The government operated according to the Führerprinzip. The Führer served as head of state and head of government and stood above the central political and military command structure.

Government institutions operated beneath the office. The Oberkommando der Tanoa Einsatzgruppen, established in 1950, became the principal central command authority through which political and military directives were coordinated.

The Deputy Führer of Tanoa served directly below the Führer during Eef Paap's rule. Daniel Paap was the only known holder of that office.

Residence
The official residence of the Führer was the Führerhaus on Ravi-Ta. It served as a residence and secure leadership site. Georgetown remained the administrative capital of the Tanoa Einsatzgruppen.

Succession
The office did not use a constitutional succession procedure. During the late 1970s, Jan Paap selected Eef as his successor. Jan retired in January 1980, and Eef succeeded him immediately at the age of 11.

Eef's accession was formally marked during a state ceremony in Georgetown on 6 November 1980, eight days before his twelfth birthday. Jan continued advising him until 1987. The transfer from Jan to Eef was the only hereditary succession to the office.
